Dorie Colangelo is a Los Angeles based personal chef, cooking instructor and food photographer/stylist. She was born and raised in Connecticut and spent 13 years in Brooklyn before heading west to Los Angeles. Her fondest culinary childhood memories are shucking peas for her mom’s spring vegetable pasta, picking figs and Sicilian squash called “gagootz” in her Nonna’s garden in Brooklyn, and punching risen dough for her Dad’s Sunday night pizzas.
Dorie was a singer/songwriter for 17 years before she decided to focus on her passion for cooking by starting her food blog BrooklynSalt.com in 2011. She eventually enrolled in culinary school, graduating top of her class from the International Culinary Center (formerly the French Culinary Institute) in Manhattan.
From there, she interned in the Martha Stewart Test Kitchens, did a stint as a line cook at Roman's restaurant in Brooklyn, NY, and taught cooking classes with CocuSocial and The Brooklyn Kitchen. She then joined Carried Away Chefs in Manhattan as a personal chef and event chef.
Dorie currently lives in Los Angeles and focuses on fresh, simple, seasonal American dishes with influences from Mediterranean, American, Mexican, Spanish, Indian and Asian cuisines. She splits her time between personal chef work, cooking classes, photographing food and trying to get around to eating at every restaurant in L.A.
